70-282 exam cram: Firewall Clients

Hi – I am the publisher of the Microsoft Small Business Specialist Primer book and I like to hold virtual book readings. Let’s rock!

Firewall Clients

Firewall clients are computers with the firewall client software installed and enabled. Firewall clients use Winsock applications that use the ISA firewall service. When a firewall client requests an object from a computer, it uses a Winsock application and checks its copy of the local address table (LAT) to see if the specified computer is in the LAT. If the computer is not found in the LAT, the request is sent on to the firewall service. The request will then be handled by the firewall service, forwarding it to the right destination if permitted.

Firewall client software can be installed on Windows ME, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0, or Windows 2000. Sixteen-bit Winsock applications are supported, but only on Windows 2000 and Windows NT 4.0. Unlike SecureNAT, the firewall client service can send user information required for authentication to ISA.

Table 6-5 compares and contrasts all firewall client methods. Table 6-5

IMPORTANT: A favorite test-writing technique is to invoke the compare-and-contrast method used by stern composition teachers in grammar school assigning essay homework! So make the table above your test-taking buddy and understand that a compare-and contrast viewpoint, as expressed above specific to firewalls, is a popular exam question construct and can rear its ugly head on any 70-282 testing subject!
