SBS 2003 Franchise Manual (Advanced SBS 2003 Best Practices book excerpt)

Hello folks – Harrybbbb here – publisher of the Advanced SBS 2003 book. Here is a passage on a franchise concept for my virtual book reading!

The SBS 2003 Franchise Manual

As reported in my SBS 2003 monthly newsletter, Microsoft is offering its business partners a series of information technology (IT) solutions at absolutely no charge (that’s the “F” word, otherwise known as FREE!). These solutions integrate Microsoft products with complementary partner technologies, to address real world business IT problems that customers face. Each solution covers planning, building, operating, and supporting an IT infrastructure, and includes messaging, collaboration, and file and print services. The solutions are designed to address four different levels of IT need, on scale as follows.

·         Peer-to-Peer Networking with Windows XP. This solution is designed for businesses with up to ten users in a server-less environment, and is targeted primarily to do-it-yourself audiences.

·         Small IT Solution. This solution is for five to fifty users in an environment with a server. It is targeted primarily to Microsoft Partners serving small businesses, and to generalist IT audiences.

·                       Medium IT Solution. This solution is also targeted primarily to Microsoft Partners and to generalist IT audiences, but it offers the flexibility that’s needed for a setting with 50 to 250 users.

·                       Large IT Solution. This solution is designed for settings with 250 to 500 users, and it addresses enterprise-level requirements, such as scalability and round-the-clock operations. It is targeted primarily to professional IT audiences.

The Small IT Solution provides detailed, step-by-step guidance for implementing a small business infrastructure in entry-level server-based computing. It provides core technology for e-mail messaging, local and remote client networking, and file and print services. You can download this solution from http://
