Harryb said it: SBS 2005 (Advanced SBS 2003 Best Practices book excerpt)

Folks – it is funny to look back at my odler writings. I said it. I bet that there would be an SBS 2005. So here is my daily virtual book reading from the above title that I published. So let’s rock!

Small Business Server 2005 (or Later?)

Lord only knows what the future holds with respect to SBS. As of the time this chapter is being written, there is to be an SBS 2005 release. A few of us gamblers bet that’ll slip to the year 2006 (I would guess early 2006). I’m not sure what SBS 2005 will contain, and I even question if anything else, save for a PBX telephony application, should be added to SBS. But in the context of planning, you must recognize that SBS will be upgraded in either the year 2005 or shortly thereafter. So you need to consider what that means to you, the SBSer. Should you wait for the next release for both yourself and your consulting clients? (A classic technology delay tactic in business, eh?) Or does the SBS 2003 release more than meet the needs marketplace and you’ll charge full steam ahead and perhaps bypass the next upgrade? All of these (and more unspoken futuristic issues) are fair game in the planning cycle.
