Auction yourself as a small business technology consultant [SMB Consulting Best Practices book excerpt]

Well hello there – I am harrybbb, the author of the above title and I love posting up a passage a day as my virtual book reading. Today is a great topic – go ahead – sell yourself at an auction!

Auctioning yourself as an SMB Consultant

Auction barkers and hucksters have been around forever, dating back to the first ice age. So this section is really presenting nothing new. But hang in there for the twists on being an SMB consultant and using auctions.

Auctions for charity

The following is a true story that was widely reported in US newspapers. A medical doctor donated a vasectomy operation to a local school fundraising auction. Granted, it would hardly be as dramatic, but why couldn’t you, as an SMB consultant, donate a day of services to go to the highest bidder? If you look closely, there are charity auctions every week in medium and large cities. It’s a cheap and effective way to market yourself. Figure 4-2 shows one such charity auction.
