Gang – Microsoft has a cool new initiative to support startups. But I ask you….is this a friend of foe of the Small Business Specialist, the SMB consultant, etc?

To qualify for BizSpark, your startup must be:

Actively engaged in development of a software-based product or service that will form a core piece of its current or intended business[1],
    Privately held,
In business for less than 3 years[2], and
Generating less than USD $1 million in annual revenue[3].
To be eligible to use the software for production and deployment of hosted solutions, startups must also be developing a new “software as a service” solution (on any platform) to be delivered over the Internet.

The sponsorship of a Network Partner or BizSpark Champ is required before enrolling in BizSpark. Network Partners are organizations that specialize in promoting and supporting software Startups through programs, mentoring, networking, business advice, financial assistance, and so on.

If I understand this correctly, if I start a new hosting solution company or posibly a new MSP based on a hosted solution, based on SaaS, I could get my licening for free for three years as long as one of the many, many organizations sponsor me and I agree to pay $100 dollars. Wow – I guess MS wants to bait the wolves and see who survives. I will catuiously watch with bated breathe.

  2. This is for software development startups “Actively engaged in development of a software-based product or service that will form a core piece of its current or intended business[1],”
So why would this be a risk to SBSC or SMB Consultants aside from making some tear their party dresses because they don’t get a free Action Pack.
