Growth Strategy

Both authors are acutely aware that some readers will simply use the Small Business Specialist Community as a stepping stone on the way up the partner ladder. Some readers don’t intend to remain Small Business Specialists for long. For those, this is merely their starting point to building a relationship with Microsoft, acquiring some customers who are “referencable and referable,” and becoming a Certified Partner or Gold Certified Partner going after upper/mid­market or enterprise-level work.

For what it is worth, here’s our one-word reply: COOL! You are welcome to stay in the Small Business Specialist Community as long as you like. Just because you get big doesn’t mean you can’t remain small!

IMPORTANT: It’s a well-known and appreciated growth strategy to start small and become big. That’s how the game is played and it’s how the likes of Microsoft and HP and other great companies launched! Who knows? It’s entirely possible that someone reading this chapter will ascend to stardom and be the next billionaire!

Along the same line, some people use opportunities like the Small Business Specialist program as a “station in life.” Realistically, the opportunities available in the small business space allow you to make a good six-figure living. However, the small business opportunity probably isn’t a seven-figure opportunity (to make you a millionaire just from installing SBS at customer sites). But, you can use your small business consulting income to leverage into other opportunities, such as commercial real estate, where you then go on to make millions. That’s the power of leverage.
