Dear IT Business Owner:

Isn’t it unfair?

You deliver the absolute best solutions and services. You consistently go the extra mile for your customers – even on your own dime.

Yet you have no awareness in your market. Your sales are stagnant or barely growing. Fly-by-night competitors with a lot less to offer consistently steal business away from you because clients only seem to care about price. And now, the economy has taken a toll on businesses, and some of your customers are disappearing.

As unjust as this is, here’s the hard truth:

It doesn’t matter if you are the absolute best provider of technical solutions in your city; if you don’t know how to market your business to attract more high-paying clients, you are going to continue to be the best kept secret in your town, struggling to get by, barely generating any real revenue, and left to compete solely on price alone.

On this Webinar, you’ll discover:

  • The 3 most critical marketing secrets discovered and used by the top MSP’s, VAR’s and IT business owners in the world…and how they are cashing in on them RIGHT NOW.
  • What the biggest road blocks to growing your business are and what you can do about them immediately.
  • The type of marketing you absolutely MUST avoid if you want to gain new clients; ignore this and you could actually LOSE business.
  • How to develop a PROCESS for your marketing rather than having to rely on referrals or waiting for the phone to ring.
  • The one strategy a client of ours used to increase his PERSONAL INCOME to over $200,000 per year…and he did it in less than 8 months!

Windows 7 (Win7) and the SMB Nation Tribal Member…newz coming….

It’s HERE! Windows 7/Win7 launches tomorrow and there is much activity and excitement afoot. Prowess, a new SMB Nation sponsor, has a Win7-related special for folks who attended the just completed SMB Nation Fall 2009 event in Las Vegas. You can learn aout this special in a little vid snippet I did here [http://www.smbnation.tv/play.php?vid=17]

And in Seattle, Microsoft’s home town, the Windows 7 launch has a really special flair. There is a lunch/learn/meet/greet at the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce. More importantly – if you are a Microsoft partner – you can participate!!! See the net-net communication below where you can HOST A TABLE in front of bona fide customers and BE THERE at the Win7 LAUNCH! I will be there and I look forward to seeing you too!

More details about the event can be found here. (but plan to arrive a little early if you can, around 11)

Here is a rough agenda of what the event will look like:

11:00 a.m.: MS Partner Huddle

11:30 a.m.: Registration opens/networking

Noon: Welcome/Demo

12:45 p.m.: Table Conversations/Structured Networking

1:20 p.m.: Prizes Drawn

1:30 p.m.: Event Concludes

As a host of a table we ask that you facilitate a casual conversation about Windows 7—we will provide a table question to start the conversation and attendees will have a game card with questions about Win7 that they may need your help to fill out. We would also like to encourage you to bring a laptop loaded with Win7 so your table can get a hands on look at the operating system.

To take advantage of this opportunity please email the staff person’s name and email that will serve as a table host. If you have any questions please feel free to email nikkib@seattlechamber.com

Thanks!

Jessica

Good morning, take a look at this lunch event in Seattle tomorrow afternoon…You’re invited!

From Jessica Efta, Business Development Manager with the Microsoft Local Engagement Team

I have an exciting “Win 7 Launch Day” event coming up this Thursday during the lunch hour at the Seattle Chamber, and we need at least 5 more partners to sign up to “host” a lunch and learn table. The event is coming up very soon but I wanted to reach out and see if any of your Seattle area partners would want to come?  They would be seated (1 partner/table) with 10 customers at a table. After a presentation and demo from our friends at the BMO, there will be some time for the Partners to give customers at their table a more intimate view of Win 7.  Tell them to bring their Win 7 laptops! We currently have over 80 people registered!

Please let myself or Jessica know ASAP if you’d like to get on board with this!

“Best Of” Awards Announced from SMB Nation

It’s been a long day of meetings in Redmond with groups like BPOS and I have just returned home to my beloved Bainbridge Island. Before I turn down, I need to write one more very important blog! This is the list of “Best of” winners at the just-completed SMB Nation Fall Conference (Oct 2-4, 2009, Las Vegas). Methodology you ask? I have this answer. The attendees voted with their own free will on the ballot. UN observers insured a fair outcome. The people have spoken and the election has been certified.

So here are the results followed by numerous follow-up comments:

Best of Show : Calyptix & ConnectWise (tie)

Best Hardware Product: Datto

Best Software Product: Reflexion

Best Service Product: Symform

Most Promising New Product: Symform

And now the PR blitz:

Charlotte tech firm Calyptix earns ‘Best of Show’

Calyptix Security, an Internet security firm based in Charlotte, recently won “Best in Show” honors at the seventh annual SMB Nation Fall Conference in Las Vegas.

Charlotte-based Calyptix received the award after voting by the nearly 700 attendees, beating 60 other vendors, including powerhouses Cisco Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) and Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT).

Calyptix, founded in Charlotte and based in the University City area, develops Internet security products designed specifically for small businesses. The trade show featured companies from across the nation that offer technology to aid small and midsized businesses.

“This recognition is a tremendous honor for our team,” says Ben Yarbrough, Calyptix chief executive. “For 18 months, we have worked extremely hard to build a security solution specifically for small businesses. This recognition by our target audience validates that our solution hits the mark.”

SMB Nation, the organization that hosted the event, helps educate small and midsized businesses on technology issues. It boasts a following of more than 30,000 information-technology professionals worldwide.

Its fall conference, the organization’s signature event, was held Oct. 2-4 in Las Vegas at the Riviera Hotel & Casino

Reflexion Wins “Best Software Product” at SMB Nation Fall Conference

WOBURN, Mass. –(Business Wire)– Reflexion Networks, Inc. received the award for Best Software Product at the SMB Nation Fall Conference last week in Las Vegas. SMB Nation is one of the leading communities of IT solution providers dedicated to addressing the technology needs of small and mid-size businesses. SMB Nation members serve as the “trusted IT advisors” for their clients, helping them utilize technology to operate more efficiently, compete more effectively, and grow their businesses.

//

This is Reflexion’s second recent award from the IT industry’s top solution provider organizations. In August, Reflexion was recognized as Vendor of the Year by The ASCII Group, the oldest and largest independent community of IT solution providers in the world.
Scott Barlow, Reflexion’s Vice President of Sales and Product Management, accepted the award from Harry Brelsford, Chief of the SMB Nation Tribe, as members are known. “Reflexion is dedicated to helping IT solution providers bring the compelling benefits of hosted services to their clients of all sizes around the world,” said Barlow. “With Reflexion’s services, our partners protect their clients with the same capabilities used by large enterprises, but at an affordable monthly price.” “SMB Nation members are keenly focused on vendor capabilities and business practices,” said Harry Brelsford. “By delivering top quality hosted services exclusively through the reseller channel, Reflexion has earned the trust of solution providers, and hence was independently voted the Best Software Product award by attendees at SMB Nation Fall09.” About Reflexion Networks Reflexion Networks provides a suite of hosted services for email and Web security, email archiving, e-discovery, and recovery, and business continuity. The company’s hosted services are sold exclusively through a worldwide network of IT solution providers, supporting over 5,000 customers in 45 countries. Symform Honored by SMB Nation

Selected in two categories for Best of Show Awards

SMB Nation 2009 Fall Conference

SEATTLE–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Symform, Inc. (www.symform.com), a developer of online storage services for disaster recovery, announced today that it has been honored in two categories by SMB Nation. Symform was named “Best Service Product” and “Most Promising New Product.” The winners of the various awards were chosen by more than 800 representatives from leading IT Service Providers attending the SMB Nation 2009 Fall Conference in Las Vegas.

Founded in 1999, SMB Nation conferences and events bring forward-thinking IT Service Providers, technologies, and vendors together to inspire new opportunities in the SMB space. Being THE information source for SMB technologists and Small Business Specialists worldwide, SMB Nation delivers complete business solutions to help its members better manage their businesses, stay abreast of new technologies, and provide on-going education.

“As pioneers of backup and disaster recovery solutions, we are thrilled to be recognized as a company that exemplifies innovation and success potential,” said Praerit Garg, CEO and co-founder of Symform. “It is especially pleasing to know that this was a ‘People’s Choice’ process with the nominations and votes coming from the members of SMB Nation.”

The Symform Cooperative Storage CloudTM enables small businesses to implement a backup and disaster recovery solution that is more secure and ten times cheaper than traditional online backup services. The company was founded on the realization that millions of small businesses have computers with an excess of inexpensive storage capacity, power running 24×7, and unlimited Internet bandwidth – especially nights and weekends. The Symform team has developed software that aggregates this relatively unreliable and untrusted capacity over the Internet and transforms it into a secure and reliable global storage system. The heart of Symform’s software is a proprietary technology called RAID-96.TM

“The people have spoken and they recognize Symform as a progressive and disruptive technology that warrants serious consideration by the SMB channel,” said Harry Brelsford, President and CEO of SMB Nation. “I’m delighted to see Symform driving success with innovation in a recovering economy. The people clearly applaud that.”

“Winning both prestigious awards at this focused industry event showcases the importance of the Symform solution to small and mid-market MSPs and IT consultants,” said Dana Guppy, CEO of First Mile Services. “Disaster recovery solutions that lower client anxiety and allow them to sleep well are rarely associated with an affordable price. Implement Symform soon before your competition does!”

About Symform

Symform, a privately held company based in Seattle, is developing cost-effective solutions to large-scale distributed data management problems. Symform is dedicated to the belief that technology products built on the cooperative, decentralized principles underlying the Internet are inherently more affordable, dependable, scalable, and sustainable than centralized data-center-based alternatives. www.symform.com.

Shout Outs – thanks for the overwhelming support at SMB Nation Fall09

This past week, I received a thank you call from MSP Guru David Schfran (New York, New York). David recently penned our cover story on managed services in the SMB PC magazine and he shared that he received great feedback and landed a bona fide customer engagement as a result of his efforts. It’s how the game is played as an author. More importantly, his sincere outreach to me with a thank you telephone call is a “lost art” in this day and time. I told him such and said thank you for saying thank you to me.

With that preface, I want to make sure I say THANK YOU in this blog to the many sponsors who supported the SMB Nation Fall Conference (Oct 2-4, 2009, Las Vegas). I do this in the form of tweets, Facebook entries, a blog and a LinkedIn status update. It’s the least I can do. So please honor, applaud and support these otherwise unrecognized sponsors who helped make SMB Nation Fall 2009 possible.

SMB Nation reports record donations at its GEEKauction during the SMB Nation Fall 2009 conference.

Geek Givers generously donate to green cause at SMB Nation Fall 2009. Sponsors donated relevant technology items for attendees to bid on.

SMB Nation is now reporting record donations at its annual charity-related giving program that is a fixture at SMB Nation events. Over $6,000 was raised and will benefit a bicycle advocacy group, Bikes Belong. SMB Nation attendees bid in a silent auction on technology items donated by the sponsor community. Items ranged from consumer electronics to business books. “We are amazed that we raised over 4X in monies compared to last year’s efforts. It really shows both the maturity and generousity of our Geek Givers.” Shared Harry Brelsford, CEO of SMB Nation. “I want to give a special shout out to Bob Godgart (CEO, Autotask) who encouraged us to launch our GEEKauctions endeavor.” The SMB Nation sponsors participated in the Silent GEEKauction (company name, item donated): • 8kmiles, 200 hours of free cloud computing infrastructure – software, hardware and services • AVG, Nintendo Wii • Back Up Assist, BackupAssist Gold Reseller Pack • CMS Products, Data Transfer Kit,Copy2Go boxed software, CE-Secure Boxed Software, BounceBack Ultimate Boxed Software, OTG Flash Drive 4GB • CompTIA, Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones • Connectwise, Amazon Kindle • CRU Dataport, RTX 400-QR portable enclouser with RAID • Datto Inc., Datto G500 + 1 year of service • eFolder, GPS TomTom • Far Stone, DC7 Enterprise version and 10 workstation licenses • GFI, 30 licenses for Email security • HP, LCD Monitor • Iomega, an EMC Company, Hard Drive USB 2.0 EMC Retrospect • Kerio, 10-user, 1 year license – Kerio MailServer 6.7 • KPEnterprises Business Consulting, Inc./Great Little Book Publishing, multiple book sets • Meraki, Wifi Data Access Point • NASBA, $50 AMEX Giftcard • Research in Motion/Blackberry, two blackberry phones • SMB Photo, 20 minute photo shoot • SoftLayer Technologies Inc., 32 GB iTouch • Sophos Inc., 50 users of our Endpoint Security and Data Protection product for a year • Trend Micro, Nintendo Wii • Trips4Fundraising, trips to Sandpiper Barbados, Blancaneaux in Belize and Infinity Bay in Roatan • Varvid, Hardlines Co, Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional LG Insight GSM Phone Since the first SMB Nation in September 2003 (with the GeekCorps as the charity), there has always been a community giving opportunity to attendees to donate to a cause. “It’s in our DNA and we are trying to lead by example.” Brelsford added. “We want our GEEK Givers to “give” more than they “take” from a societal point-of-view. Many of our Joe’s and Jane’s have never been to a charity auction and it is essential we lead the way in teaching the fine art of giving.”

Thanks everyone for a fantastic SMB Nation Fall 2009…

At the start of this year, nine months ago, I was like many small business owners thinking that “even” is the new up. Let’s just get through 2009 baby!

So “even” I was surprised with how well received the SMB Nation 2009 fall conference was this past weekend in Las Vegas. At our 7th annual show, we continued to attract SMB consultants into our show how had now attended before and met Susan, Wayne, Dana, Jeff and other MVPs/Gurus for the first time. Old timers, including 10+ who have attended every SMB Nation event since inception, were happy to see each other again ala an “annual convention” mindset.

But what I really want to talk about is amazing feedback we received in-person, in-passing and in the Town Hall Meeting at the end of the show. Folks consistently commented that the technical content was the best ever (Thanks WAYNE SMALL AND SUSAN BRADLEY for assisting). The next compliment focused on the management and logistics of the actual event (THANKS to Jenny, Cyndi, Patti, David, Chris, Dana, Julie, Mom, Jessie, et al).

So I write this, minutes before I lead the annual SMB Nation bike ride (a ride in Red Rock Park in Las Vegas), thinking that it really was an UP year after all.

THANKS EVERYONE FOR ATTENDING!

cheers….harrybbbbb

SMB Debutante Ball: HP to “introduce” HP StorageWorks X500 Data Vault Series…

Growing up, many readers recall “coming out” parties such as the community debutante ball, a Bar Mitzvah/Bat Mitzvah or a teen age birthday. In my case, my coming out party was actually a bar-be-que (BBQ) back home in Alaska at a local ski resort town called Girdwood. HP has grown up with us i the SMB sector, having been one of the original sponsors at the first SMB Nation event, a glorified kegger with 100 SBSers in Indy where we painted a van (the SBS Mobile) and donated said van to a charity (Geek Corps – the technology peace corps).

So today, as a proud “uncle” I am delighted to announce that minutes ago, HP announced its new StorageWorks X500 Data Vault Series in a worldwide press release. This product will “debut” at the SMB Nation Fall 2009 Conference (October 2-4, 2009, Las Vegas) that starts in just a few days. HP joins us for the 7th year in a row as a silver sponsor and it has enlisted MVP Kevin Royalty to help tell is story from a techie/guru/partner point of view. POWERFUL STUFF!

(BTW – Kevin’s niche is Windows Home Server which is an aligned congruent technology foundation for the HP StorageWorks X500 Data Vault Series – but you’ll just have to attend the HP speech later this week at my conference to get the net-net on that!)

So here is the official word from HP on today’s major announcement and I’d like to ask for the first dance with the HP StorageWorks X500 Data Vault product at my debutante ball (aka SMB Nation Fall 2009) starting in just a few days!!!

Read on! harrybbbb

HP StorageWorks X500 Data Vault Series

Overview

Small business owners invest a tremendous amount of time, money and resources to make their ventures successful. Addressing immediate business concerns often means postponing or overlooking technology investments that could impact the bottom line. One of those areas often overlooked are data storage and protection needs. This can lead to missed revenue opportunities through poorly managed data or the inability to rebound from major data loss.

The HP StorageWorks X500 Data Vault Series is a new family of storage devices that help small businesses remain competitive by protecting important business data, easily sharing files regardless of location, and automating backups.

“Small businesses need storage technology that lowers risk by quickly bringing data back online if a disaster occurs. It can also increase productivity by sharing and remotely accessing files outside the office,” said Lee Johns, director of marketing, Unified Storage Division, HP. “The HP StorageWorks Data Vault is easy to install, offers data protection and file sharing at an affordable price for small businesses with limited technology resources and budgets.”

A complete storage solution

The HP StorageWorks X500 Data Vault Series enables small businesses with up to 10 PC clients and Mac’s to easily store information in a central place. Business owners also save money through a low purchase price, which is up to 22 percent less than comparable solutions.(1)

The HP StorageWorks X500 Data Vault Series covers all aspects of storage needs that are important to a small business, including:

  • Data storage – customers can meet demanding storage needs with up to three terabytes of storage space and virtually unlimited expansion capabilities that add capacity without powering down the device.
  • Data protection – customers can ensure data protection in the event of failure by automatically backing up their clients daily. Customers have added protection by choosing which files are most important, and with the click of a mouse, duplicate that folder to a second hard disk drive.
  • Data sharing – customers can share files on their local network through an easy-to-use control panel. Users can also collaborate on projects through Microsoft Windows Home Server, which allows secure remote access to business files.

Larger customers who need high availability or want to simplify data management and grow storage capacity can leverage the HP StorageWorks X1000 and X3000 Network Storage Systems, which consolidate file and block data into a unified storage solution.

The HP StorageWorks X500 Data Vault Series is available in select regions worldwide.  The first in the family, the HP StorageWorks X510 Data Vault, starts at $699.(2)

(1) The HP StorageWorks X510 Data Vault costs 22 percent less than the Buffalo Terastation III 2TB product.

(2) Estimated U.S. street price. Actual price may vary. Available in the U.S., Canada, Western Europe, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand.

Here some the Fed $$$ starting Oct 1st – just ask gloStream

My goodness! The Fed fiscal year starts in 72-hours and massive $$$ will hit the system. SMB consultants can immediately benefit by providing solutions in the medical sector. One such scenario is that of CCR (Detroit, MI) who sells and implements the gloStream solution. This solution is for SMB-sized medical clinics.

The CCR boys – Curt and Joe – will be on stage during my How To Get Stimulus Funding speech and speak towards their use of gloStream.

And we thank gloStream for being an exhibitor at SMB Nation Fall 2009 (Oct 2-4, Las Vegas).

THANKS!
